HBEC Annual Health Reception

The HBEC 6th Annual Health Reception is hosted by Wayne State University and the University of Michigan. The event with its estimated 1,000 attendees this June and will be helded at a NEW HOME this year. Bert’s Warehouse Theater, nestled in the heart of the historic Eastern Market and flanked by vendors of fresh foods and live flowers.

The 2008 program, “Enhancing Soulful Living by Remaining Healthier” features brief speeches by Dr. Robert Chapman, Director of the Josephine Ford Cancer Center and Mr. Jay Butler, radio personality and WLQV Program Director. Both speakers will inspire the audience to make healthy choices and embrace preventative medical care to insure a good quality of life throughout their life cycle. The reception features free health screenings, health information and education, exercise sessions, live jazz, a gourmet lunch, and speeches by prominent members of the African American community of Detroit and the nation.

The program is free to persons at least 55 years old and their immediate family or caregivers. It takes place on Tuesday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Bert’s Warehouse Theater, 2727 Russell St., Detroit, 48207. Parking in the open lot across from the theater is free and parking in the enclosed structure is free.  Guests who need assistance walking may be dropped off directly in front of the theater. Please direct questions to Karen L. Consumer Health Learning Series

HBEC has begun its commitment to connect Detroit's seniors and their families to current knowledge about aging and health. This year's HBEC free learn series have expanded to include new locations with a broader list of speakers and topics.

Our FREE learning series include two to three presentations by experts on various health topics, a brief overview of the HBEC and its resources,a question-and-answer segment. Participants have mentioned that they especially appreciate being able to interact with doctors, health educators and HBEC/ MCUAAAR staff in a relaxed setting. FREE refreshments are served.

The Consumers Health Learning Series are held once a month between February through April and then again in October and November on a weekday at various metro locations.
